Academics:

History: The end of this quarter brought our study of the geography of the Americas to a close! When we return from Winter Break, we will begin our study of the Constitution of the United States.

Science: All scholars brought home their Insect Paragraph papers in their yellow folders. Please have your scholar practice reading it over break. They will need to bring it back when we return from break. Presentations will be done on January 8th - 10th. Our next unit will be our study of the human body, starting with a deep dive into the scientific method!

Math: When students return from break, they will review addition and subtraction. They will then begin their new chapter on Bar Models on Friday. For Rocket Math facts, all students will move to subtraction. Please have your scholar practice their addition and subtraction facts so that they can become fluent in them.

Grammar: Students will review the different parts of speech and types of sentences. They will take a mid-year Grammar assessment on Thursday, January 16th. Students will receive their new poem: The Hayloft by Robert Louis Stevenson. Recitations will begin January 21st.

Literature: Students will be introduced to common sayings that we use with the intent of communicating something in a different way.  Students will act out and/or illustrate each saying that we review. Students will be introduced to Little House in the Big Woods and be reminded to make sure they have their own copy in their desks to read together.

We wish you a happy and safe holiday!
