Hello, parents and guardians!

Field Trip - Our field trip to the Pioneer Living History Museum will be on Friday, March 22nd. A link to sign up as a chaperone will be sent out in the coming week. If you chaperoned the first field trip, we ask that you allow other parents to sign up as a chaperone. Thank you.

March 7: Athletic Field Day (Field Day is only successful with parent volunteers. Please click the link to sign up if you are able. Spectators are not allowed on campus and all parent volunteers need to have Raptor clearance.) If you are signing up, please sign up for time slots on Thursday, March 7th. Thank you.

Athletic Field Day - Athletic Field Day will be Thursday, March 7! Please make sure your child comes to school well rested and with plenty of water. Apply sunscreen before school. This will be a fun morning of

sportsmanship with academics in the afternoon. 

The dress code for field day: 

  • Sneakers 

  • Athletic apparel 

  • No pop culture, please 

  • No tank tops 

  • No pants that are too tight or shorts more than 3 inches above the knee

  • Hat and sunglasses are optional 


Academics

Math: Students will begin learning about multiplication as repeated addition or skip counting.

 

History: We will continue our unit on the Westward Expansion with learning about the Transcontinental Railroad and the types of work cowboys did out west. Scholars will also learn about The Trail of Tears and Sequoyah's invention of the written Cherokee language.

 

Science: In Science, we will finish our unit on the Digestive System and learn about the excretory system.


Grammar: Students will use a writing map to complete an informative paragraph about the Oregon Trail and will begin learning about adverbs and their usage. 


Literature: We will read about a wonderful machine that helped the Ingalls with their harvest work. We will finish the book on Wednesday. 


Spalding: Students will learn and practice a mix of spelling words, cursive phonograms, and cursive uppercase letters next week.

Conversation Prompts:

Academics:  

Math: Scholars will be doing their chapter review pages on measurement in preparation for the chapter assessment on Thursday, 2/22, and conclude with a fun measurement scavenger hunt on Friday.


Grammar: The students practiced writing a friendly letter for Great Hearts Day. We will now learn how to write and address a postcard. Perhaps, sharing an authentic postcard that you have received would interest your student this week. For writing, we will continue summary and copy work from information learned in history / science.


History: Scholars will learn what the Oregon Trail was and where it is located and what life was like on the Oregon Trail and then learn about the California Gold Rush and the Pony Express.


Science: Scholars will continue learning about the digestive system and focus on the small intestine, liver, and pancreas.


Literature: Continuing in Little House in the Big Woods, scholars will learn how the Ingalls family made their own food. They will also learn about needing to be truthful and how harvesting is done.


Spalding: ​​​Scholars will continue to practice new spelling words and cursive letter formation by learning to connect letters through writing the phonograms. Please continue to dictate the spelling words for homework and have your child rewrite any missed words. Remember, markings need to be included except on Thursday. For the cursive practice, please have your child write each phonogram in cursive three times Monday - Wednesday. On Thursdays, scholars will write the cursive only one time.
