Note: This information is for Monday and Tuesday 11/20 - 11/21 and the following week we come back from Thanksgiving break.


History: This Monday, students will have a fun Greek Alphabet lesson with Mrs. Brady! Students will complete a study guide on Ancient Greece on 11/27 and take their assessment on Wednesday, November 29th. On Friday, December 1st, students will enjoy making some Ancient Greece crafts.

 

Science: Scholars will learn the four steps in complete metamorphosis and describe an exoskeleton and its purpose. Students have been assigned an insect to research and their paper is due December 5th.

 

Literature: Scholars will hear more Ancient Greek myths and write summaries while learning about Greek gods and goddesses. 

 

Grammar: Scholars will work on their summary and copy work skills and begin to work on dictation skills. Students will be introduced to adjectives. Full recitation of “Windy Nights” is due on Monday, November 20th.  

 

Math: Students will learn how addition relates to subtraction. We will discuss parts and wholes of related equations. After Thanksgiving break, we will review subtraction concepts before the students complete an assessment on our subtraction unit.

Poetry: Full recitation of “Windy Nights” is due on Monday, November 20th. Watch the word order on the last three lines - it's tricky! The students did a wonderful job reciting "The Cow". We are already looking forward to this one! 

 

History: The students enjoyed learning about the Persian Wars and the Olympic Games. Next week, they will learn about the Great Thinkers and Alexander the Great. Students will complete an Ancient Greece Vocabulary worksheet which they will bring home and use it for a review for their test. Students will then complete a study guide on November 27th and will take their Ancient Greece Assessment on Wednesday, November 29th.

 

Science: We will learn more about insects and explore the characteristics that allow some insects to walk on water or swim as well as fly.

 

Literature: Students will read the last of the classic, The Cricket in Times Square. Chester becomes wildly popular drawing a crowd and business to the newsstand. The Bellinis are grateful for the income, but Chester finds the fame oppressive. What will he decide to do? On Friday, we will begin our Greek Myths unit. 

 

Grammar: We will continue learning about contractions. Students will also continue practicing their summary and copy work skills.

 

Math: Students have begun subtracting with renaming.  We will continue this work, building to subtracting with renaming of three-digit numbers. Don't forget to review basic addition and subtraction facts such as 9-7 and 8+7 to help students improve their fact fluency.
