Poetry: Full recitation of “Windy Nights” is due on Tuesday, November 12th. Watch the word order on the last three lines - it's tricky! The students did a wonderful job reciting "The Cow". We are already looking forward to this one!
History: This week, scholars were excited to learn all about life in ancient Athens and Sparta. Next week, we will continue our study of ancient Greece by learning about the Persian Wars and Olympic Games!
Science: This week, we learned how aquatic bugs are able to walk on water and dive below the surface! We are still waiting patiently for our classroom butterflies to make their debut. Next week, students will learn more about insect life cycles, including complete and incomplete metamorphosis!
Literature: Students will read the last of the classic, The Cricket in Times Square. Chester becomes wildly popular drawing a crowd and business to the newsstand. The Bellinis are grateful for the income, but Chester finds the fame oppressive. What will he decide to do? On Friday, we will begin our Greek Myths unit. We will not have Reading Groups until after we start our new book, which will be after Christmas break.
Grammar: We will continue learning about contractions and review verbs and pronouns. Students will also continue practicing their summary and copy work skills from information learned in History.
Math: Students will focus on different strategies for subtracting such as counting on, subtracting tens and hundreds mentally, and using vertical algorithm. Please check your scholar's homework for completion and accuracy.
