Hello Parents and Guardians, 


Important Dates:  

    Monday, March 31: We start reading Charlotte's Web, please have your scholar bring        their book if they have not yet done so.

    Thursday, April 3: Math Chapter Test on Time

    Monday, April 7: "The Land of Counterpane" poem due for recitation 



News: 

  • *Please make sure your scholar brings in their copy of Charlotte’s Web, if they have not done so already. We begin reading this book on Monday. 

  • *Please encourage your scholar to finish the year strong (only 8 weeks to go!) by arriving at school on time, following classroom procedures and uniform dress code, being consistent with homework completion, and staying focused and ready to learn. 

  • *Please have your scholar bring a water bottle daily. They are getting hot and thirsty at PE and Recess. Please ensure your scholar also has a snack every day as well.


Conversation Starters: 

  • What is force? Can you show an example?

  • How do machines help us perform tasks?

  • What was an exaggeration from one of the Tall Tales we read?  

  • Which word is the preposition? book, around, table 

  • If the short hand is pointing to the 1 and the minute hand is pointing to the 12, what time is it?

  • When you get to school, is it a.m. or p.m.?

  • What were the differences between the Northern and Southern states? How were they alike? How were they different?


Academics:

     Spalding: After a few weeks with shortened lists, scholars will return to their normal amount of words Please check your scholar's homework daily for completion and accuracy and please make sure the are writing their words correctly in cursive and including the markings.

     Math: Scholars will begin their chapter review over 'time' in preparation for their chapter test on Time on Thursday. Please check your scholar's homework daily for completion and accuracy.

     History: We will continue to learn about the Civil War and scholars will learn about the Underground Railroad and how it helped the slaves find freedom.

Science: This week, we learned about force and motion before being briefly introduced to the six simple machines. Next week, we will begin our deep dive into each of the simple machines, starting with the inclined plane! Students will get to witness exciting demonstrations of the simple machines before adding the definitions and some real-life examples to their foldables.

     Grammar: Scholars will continue to learn about prepositions and their objects and review using complete sentences to answer questions. Scholars will continue to practice their summary and copy work skills.

    Literature: We will begin reading Charlotte's Web! Please send in the book if you have not done so already. Scholars will enjoy completing a Charlotte's Web booklet identifying vocabulary and story elements as we read through the book.
