Hello Parents and Guardians! We love having our scholars back in class! They have grown so much already, and we were excited to share their progress! Thank you for sharing your children with us and thank you for all the work and dedication you put forth. 


We will begin Cricket in Times Square on Monday, October 21st. Please have your scholar bring their book and please make sure their name is on it.


If your scholar will be absent, please notify your scholar's teacher and email the attendance office at: attendance@archwaychandler.org

  • Classical Character Day-Wednesday, October 30th (information was given to your child today)

  • Field Trip to the MIM - Thursday, October 31st (specific details will be sent home soon)

  • China Celebration-Friday, November 1st (a sign-up link for needed items will be sent out soon.)

China Celebration: To enrich our curriculum and allow learning to come alive, we will have a China celebration! The students will discover Chinese food, create a craft, and unravel a silkworm’s cocoon, and play a game with chopsticks. This event will be Friday, November 1st. A sign-up list will be sent out soon for the items that are needed. Please sign up if possible so that we can have a successful China celebration. Thank you!

Academics: 


History: This week, students began their study of Ancient China! We talked about two rivers in China, the Huang He and the Yangtze River. Scholars were thrilled to learn what makes the Huang He yellow in color. Next week, students will learn about Chinese inventions and the steps in making silk!


Science: This week, we began our unit on insects by learning how insects see and hear. Students were eager to discover why these senses are important to insects. Next week, we will discover how insects taste, smell, and touch!


Grammar: Scholars will learn how to use commas in a series, review nouns, and review incomplete / complete sentences. We have also begun a new poem for recitation. It is the poem, "The Cow" by Robert Louis Stevenson as we have begun a poetry unit on this famous author's poetic works.  


Math: Scholars will have a math check-up on Monday and then begin to learn to count bills, 1's, 5's, 10's, 20's, and 100's. They will learn to exchange money and compare amounts of money. Please continue to check your scholar's homework for completion and accuracy.


Literature: We will begin reading The Cricket in Times Square, please ensure your child has a copy on Monday 10/21. Students will review the terms-setting and characters. They will also compare and contrast a cricket's sound to classical music. Don't forget the sign up for reading groups, thank you!
